Celia Zveibil Brandao

I am a Toronto based ceramic artist and instructor, currently running the Pottery Studio at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Center.

I have a Fine Arts degree from Sao Paulo, Brazil with a major in Graphic Design. I designed for a Brazilian airline company from 1980 to1990 before arriving in Canada, simultaneously exploring the clay medium.

Immediately following my arrival in Toronto I immersed myself in ceramic courses and became a full-time potter.

I have exhibited and guest lectured workshops in Brazil, USA and Canada. I’ve been a recipient of several awards over the past 10 years. My work has been published nationally and internationally in books and magazines.

Artist Statement

The balance between Form and Function is always present in my mind. I am constantly exploring the beauty of the form balanced with the design. As an object of art the treatment of surfaces and variety of firing methods are an intrinsic part of the final work.

Teaching ceramics is part of my development and inspiration as an artist through the interaction with my students. It is very rewarding and I’m passionate about what I do.

I feel lucky to be part of such a great community of potters like the one I found in Canada.
